People choose to get a nose job (also known as rhinoplasty) for a multitude of reasons. Perhaps their nose was broken and it hasn’t healed properly, resulting in breathing problems. Or perhaps they don’t like the way their nose looks in photos.
According to new research, a nose job can also help with anti-aging. The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA conducted a study where a program was given thousands of before and after images of women between the ages of 16 and 72 that had undergone rhinoplasty. The program was trained to determine a person’s age based on the characteristics of the face. In 100 of the “after” photos, the program determined that the individual in the picture was about three years younger, with older women showing greater results.
How does rhinoplasty potentially cause a person to look younger? It may have to do with how the procedure lifts and contours the face to make it look smaller and appear a little higher, resulting in a more youthful look.
